Do you love to make art, but find it difficult to find the time or the space to make it happen?

Are you looking for a place to make art, but want to work on your independent ideas? 

Are you looking for a little support with media use, but also room to explore?

I am so excited to be offering an opportunity for individuals to use our space and materials at a very reasonable rate.  You can explore with our media before investing in your own set. 

Twice a month on Mondays I'll be offering a drawing open studio and the other two Mondays a month I'll be doing a mixed media open studio.  I hope you'll join me!

Drawing Open Studio for Adults
Leader: Beth Ann Short
Looking for a place to practice your drawing skills with guidance and nurturing support?  These monthly workshops will provide artists of ALL levels a place to explore materials and also work on technique.  Each month a drawing exercise will be offered(i.e. still life or verbal prompt) and also a wide variety of drawing materials including pencil, colored pencil, pastel and charcoal.
Participants are welcome to bring in pieces that are in process too.
Come for 1, 2 or all 3 hours! 
Pay by the hour or pay a discounted rate for the full 3 hour session.
Mondays 2x per month from 10am-1pm

Mixed Media Open Studio

Looking for a place to explore your creativity using mixed media?  In this open studio setting, participants are welcome to come with a project already started or begin fresh.  No previous art experience needed.  Technical media support will be available.  Media available for use includes collage, paint, found objects, drawing materials and much more!

Pay by the hour or pay a discounted rate for the full 3 hour session.

This group exhibit is an opportunity to witness a personal aspect of an artists most intimate space, where they live.

This month we are looking for art that is collage based.
Words should be included.  Collage materials should be from cast off print.

Submission Guidelines:
1. An artist may submit up to 5 pieces.  All media are considered.  

2. Please send quality images no larger then 400KB. We will not accept a link to a personal website as a submission. Submissions should be sent in jpeg format to monkeysubmissions@gmail.com 
 
3. All submissions should include: 

• Artists name
• Address
• E-mail address
• Phone number
• One paragraph written bio
• One paragraph artist's statement

4. For each submission please include

• Title of the work
• Date created
• Media
• Dimensions (height x length x depth) in inches
• Price.

(Please be sure to indicate whether or not the work(s) you are submitting is/are not for sale.)

Instructions for dropping off and picking up art to and from the gallery will come with acceptance information. Those works that are selected for the exhibition must be wall/exhibition ready by the drop off date.
 
Submissions that do not comply with the above requirements will not be considered.

Oregon Women's Caucus for Arts and Suzan Mayer: A retrospective

Portland, Oregon. Throughout the month of January Evolve Gallery at the 100th Monkey Studio is proud to host two connecting exhibits: The Oregon Women’s Caucus for Art and one OWCA member’s retrospective, Suzan Mayer. The opening event is from 6-9pm on Friday, January 6th, 2012 and will hang throughout the gallery until January 27th, 2012. There will be live music by Amber Harlan.  The event is free and open to the public.
 
In the Lounge Gallery, the artwork of Suzan Mayer, a member of the OWCA, will be featured. This retrospective will feature her past and present work, which Mayer has used to deal with the “strains and complexities” of her life. Mayer stated, "I sometime feel I am balancing my physical, etheric and emotional bodies to each other.  It is calming, like meditation or prayer. In this state of mind. One allows patterns to arise from chaos. It feels very healing.  Hopefully you too will be able to "let go" and allow your rationality to engage your poetical self when you gaze at my art."  Mayer has lived in Portland all her life and since her health crisis her art has changed. She now describes her art as “dark and crunchy, using natural and human-made objects as well as conventional paints.”
 
In the main gallery, the artwork of several OWCA members will be featured. OWCA is a national non-profit association of professional women artists, art educators, art students and arts administrators. The national caucus was formed in 1972 as an outgrowth of the College Art Association. The Oregon chapter was formed in 1987 to reach out to women in all of Oregon and southwest Washington. The OWCA is committed to: education about the contributions of women, opportunities for the exhibition of women’s work, publication of women’s writing about art, professional equity for all, respect for all individuals without discrimination, and support for legislation relevant the their goals.
