We all do it...
I am the queen of multitasking and technology helps me in my ridiculously busy journey each day.
This week at the studio we are having a "quiet" week. We are not preparing for the next show or doing more construction, although we are still trying to get our Sewing and Fiber Art room organized. *daunting*
I am also teaching art classes to youth in the after-school studio as well as the homeschoolers.
I return to work today after a lovely weekend in Olympia and Tacoma.
First stop, Olympia. My husband and I delivered and hung my most recent solo show at a Envy Salon on the First Friday Art Walk. This walk opens October 2nd, the same day we have an opening so I won't be able to attend, but if you stop in say hello to Mare, an old and dear friend from childhood. Her salon is warm and inviting. The colors the
salon and vibrance of Mare Hilchey were an excellent environment for a
collection of my acrylic & encaustic painting.
After a fun & very spontaneous night in Olympia (we attended a Michael Jackson Thriller Dance Party/Benefit)...we awoke and got on the road to Tacoma. My husband and I also celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary this weekend. Taking advantage of the location we visited the Tacoma Museum of Glass where we got to watch the glass team create a piece inspired by Native American Fish Catchers. This was led by artist Joe Feddersen who teaches at Evergreen and has a book out. The Hot Shop was amazing...I'd seen it on a special before featuring Dale Chihuly, but being there in person was engaging and delightful to watch the process. We really enjoyed the entire experience.
I came home with a piece of art by Tacoma artist Oliver Doriss that is the shape of a baby doll head...kind of creepy but very unique and fits well in our house.
We also stayed at a wonderful B&B...I would recommend to anyone if you like comfy beds, intriguing conversation and an excellent breakfast. Cecil, the inn keeper, stuffed us with fresh squeezed oj, fresh fruit (mango! my favorite!), buttermilk blueberry pancakes and cheesy eggs...and breakfast meat if you are a carnivore (like my husband). The Chinaberry Hill Inn...if you head up to look at the art and watch the artists in the Hot Shop you'll want to stay here...
So now...I have lots of work to do...groups to lead...kids to teach...art to make...then next weekend I get to be a girlscout troop mom chaperon. I do love camping and I was asked to be the storyteller, a job I could never say no to.
Have an excellent & creative week!
